Professor Iqbal Singh, who is also a consultant physician at East Lan- cashire Hospitals NHS Trust, received an award for lifetime achievement in equality, diversity and care of older people in healthcare at The Peo- ple’s Awards. The ceremony, which took place at the House of Commons, recognises individuals who have bro- ken barriers, challenged conventions and made outstanding contributions to political and public life over the past year. Prof Singh, received the award from Seema Mal- hotra, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Equalities. He is the founder chair of two centres, CESOP, which helps to embed dignity, compassion and respect in the care of older people and CRST, which supports doctors in diffi- culty and provides train- ing and support to enable a safe return to practice. He also co-chairs the European group for the safety of older people and during the Covid pan- demic, led the ‘Staying safe and well project’, which ensured the health and wellbeing of older peo- ple while shielding. Prof Singh said: “I am humbled and grateful for the recognition and have an overwhelming sense of gratitude, not just for the recognition, but for the countless number of people who have walked the journey with me over many years. “The award is a recognition of how, col- lectively, we made health- care more compassionate, safer and fairer, improv- ing access and outcomes.” POLICE have responded to growing concerns over parking and road safety in the Rivington area. They have carried out a series of speed checks and vehicle stops and have vowed the action will continue, including increasing the police pres- ence during peak times.
