Their first task on March 1 will be to paint the remaining bollards opposite the Bowling Green pub, before moving through the town centre. The volunteer group says details of future event locations will be revealed “in due course.” The railings by Old Sta- tion Park, Pickups Play- ing Field and the gates to Ridgmont Cemetery have already been rec- ommended for painting. Suggestions for future locations can be sent to Councillor Steven Chad- wick, organiser of the group, at stevenchadwick. horwichfirst@gmail.com Sat 1st March Sun 27th April Sat 17th May Sun 15th June Sun 6th July Sat 2nd August Sat 13th September Sat 4th October Sun 2nd November Sun 6th December 2025 EVENT DATES: Volunteer call: Steven Chadwick Makeover: Horwich’s bollards are being repainted Call to ‘save’ Poppy appeal Litter pickers are back He said: “It is now over seven years since our first litter picking event at Old Station Park. “As Horwich’s first litter picking and event group, it is great to see other groups have been inspired to form since and many individuals are now also doing their own solo picks to keep our town tidy. The more the merrier! “I would reiterate our monthly events are open to all individuals and groups, whether you want to come each month, or just occasionally. “If you would rather just litter pick than paint, please do come along, as Horwich First Commu- nity Litter Pickers also have equipment available for litter picking. “We still try and rotate between Saturdays and Sundays, and may even run some midweek ses- sions in summer to make our events as accessible as possible. “I would like to publicly thank Horwich Town Council for supplying the paint we use, having obtained the relevant permissions from the borough council.” A CALL has gone out for volunteers to step forward to save Horwich’s annual Poppy Appeal. The current organisers have made the “difficult decision” to step down due to health and per- sonal issues. And in a statement on social media, they have warned that for the appeal to continue its fundraising work a dedicated volunteer or group needs to step forward and take it over. It said: “If you are interested and would like to knowmore about the Horwich Poppy Appeal please contact Craig Rotheram at: cro- theram@gmail.com” More than £41,000 was raised during November’s annual Poppy Appeal in the town, making it one of the most successful in the North West. A branch spokesper- son praised the generosity of local individuals, businesses, schools and organisations in the town in supporting the 2024 appeal. They added: “This would not have been possible if it wasn’t for all our hard working and dedi- cated volunteers.” It has also been announced that the ‘Pike Poppy Bin Badge’ – a new initiative launched in the area in November, raised £11,688.
