For more than 40 years over three days in July, Adlington Carnival has brought fun, entertainment and laughter to the village.
The idea of a Carnival was brought to fruition by local traders, who felt that by putting on such an event would bring more business and people to the village and also help to put Adlington on the map and raise money for local charities.
This year’s event – from July 7th to 9th – promises to bigger and better than ever!
Over the years many celebrities have appeared on the Jubilee Playing Fields such as Cilla Black, Frank Bruno, Frank Carson, Tommy Cooper, Jack & Vera Duckworth, together with numerous other soap stars.
This year’s top soap attraction is Lucy Fallon (pictured) who plays Bethany Platt in Coronation Street. She will be appearing on the Sunday.
All the fun starts on the Friday evening from 7.30pm when the marquee on the Jubilee Playing Fields will be packed for a family bingo night.
More than 50 colourful floats will parade around the village on the Saturday as the Carnival gets into full swing.
The parade starts and noon and finishes at 2pm. During the day there will be a visit by ex-Wanderers and Blackburn star, Colin Hendry while BBC Radio Lancashire’s Mad Edgar will be crowning the carnival royalty.
The day is completed with the sound of music as Karen Kennedy, starring as Adele, takes centre stage. The evening’s line-up is completed by CJ Stewart, Karen Kennedy and Gravity and DJ Paul K.
Visitors will be spoiled for choice on the Sunday as the carnival ground hosts five-a-side football, zorb football, fairground, baby show and a dog show.
Celebrity visitor Lucy Fallon will also be spending time in a signing session.
Full details are available in the carnival programme which is now on sale around the village and again over the weekend. The price is £4.
