The bellringers at Holy Trinity Parish Church, Horwich feel very fortunate in that they have managed to maintain numbers and enthusiasm following lockdown. They have been supplemented by Blackrod ringers who unfortunately have not been as lucky as them in maintaining numbers. It is very easy to lose ringers because of starting university, work, injury or age.
In May 2023 we have the coronation of King Charles III, and bells will be ringing in celebration. The Central Council for Church Bellringers has instigated 'Ring for the King', this is designed to teach new learners or to bring back lapsed ringers.
The church at Horwich is very supportive of their bells, they were rung to considerable effect for the Platinum Jubilee and for the celebration of the life of Queen Elizabeth II.
Should ringing for such an historic occasion as a coronation interest you, come up to the belfry prior to the 11 o'clock Sunday Service or Thursday practice between 7:00 and 8:30pm, or give your name to the church warden who will pass on details to Margaret Broadfoot.
Being a member of the church isn't an essential qualification! It might be that you know someone outside the church who would like to learn to ring - just turn up at the above times and staff at the Holy Trinity Parish Church, Horwich will talk you through it - no obligation!
