Washacre Primary School took
part in the 'Westhoughton You
Decide' event today organised
by GMP and hosted by
Westhoughton High School.
Our proposal was for £1500
towards the cost of a
residential to Colomendy in
Mold for our current Year 5
pupils.
Mr Messenger, Senior Leader
from Washacre Primary
School, along with Connor
Field and Kodie Gibbs who
are pupils in Year 6 presented
their proposal to over 100
people who were going to vote
on the winners. And guess
what? Washacre Primary
School came first place!
This is a really good news
story as it was a whole
community event, with the
people of the Westhoughton
community deciding on who
should win. There were 6 other
winners, but Washacre Primary
School came 1st showing we
have the communities backing.
Winning ways at Washacre
Washacre Primary School
continues to go from strength
to strength under the current
leadership. This was shown
last year when Ofsted awarded
the school a 'good' grade,
placing the school on a par
with the other schools in
Westhoughton. What puts
Washacre Primary School
heads and shoulders above the
other schools is its sense of
community pride.
The teaching and support staff
work with one goal in mind, to
put the children at the heart of
everything they do. Everyone
you speak to gushes with pride
about the achievements of
their children and the school
overall. Washacre
Primary Schools ethos
of 'Your Child, Your
Commu n i t y, Yo u r
School' certainly shone
through when The
Advertiser dropped in
this month to have a
look around the school.
"Getting the right start
to the day is vital for all
our children and that is
why we offer a free
breakfast club to all
school aged children"
says Carl Messenger,
S c h o o l B u s i n e s s
Manager. "Each day
we have ove r 30
children who attend the
breakfast club. Not only
does it provide a healthy
start to the day, but it also
enables the children to play
games with their friends".
Working in partnership
with Bolton Sports, the
children have been able to
try new sporting activities.
This term the children are
learning tag wrestling with
Sharples Wrestling Club.
Washacre Primary School
have a real wrestling star
in Year 4 as Alice Briffa is
the British Freestyle
Wresting Champion.
Children in Key Stage 2
also have the opportunity
of learning Foil Fencing
with the Head Teacher,
Jenny Haunch. This is
something no other
children in the West of
B o l t o n h a v e t h e
opportunity to do.
