Games - REVIEWS
Roblox
is a game in which you
can meet new people, play other
people’s games, create your own
mini game and build anything you
like.
You can customise your character
by naming him/her and buying hats
and clothes with the online currency
called robux.
Roblox
includes many different
types of games including building,
action, horror, obstacle courses,
racing, RPG, fighting and there are
even
servers
to help
you with
the programming section.
There is a membership called
‘Builders Club’ that you can buy if
you want to access membership
areas or get more online currency.
Personally I like to try to make
my own games using the coding
program to try to attract players,
others who go on
Roblox
prefer to
build houses for their character.
Due to the fact that I enjoy playing
Roblox
a lot, I would score this
game 9/10.
CREATE YOUR
OWN WORLD
By Daniel Almond
Investors in Publishing Ltd, the
Horwich based publishers of
the Advertiser and Independent
local newspapers, is launching
their ‘Teen Newshounds’
training programme.
The programme is aimed at
developing budding young
journalists who are looking to
gain real publishing experience
working on local newspapers and
electronic media. The first three
members, William Kirkpatrick,
Daniel Almond and Kian French
are all students from Rivington
and Blackrod High School.
Managing Director, and creator
of the programme, Stewart
Leece said: “Both personally
and as a company it is our goal
to sponsor and champion future
talent to ensure the longevity
of the printed media, to attract
younger audiences to read local
newspapers by providing a news
and media platform, both in
printed and electronic format, that
is relevant to their age profile. At
the same time the programme
will provide the opportunity for
young minds to gain experience,
confidence and pride by being
part of a news gathering and
publishing team.
“Over the coming months the
‘Newshounds’ will be given
space within our newspapers and
electronic media to publish their
articles which, in addition to local
news and events, will also feature
their own film and game reviews,
best food thoughts, travel,
gadgets and sports reports. They
will learn and experience how a
newspaper is produced and visit
the press site to see their first
articles going to print.
“We take the safety and welfare
of the students extremely seriously
and have provided a safe and
secure contact environment for
each of the ‘Newshounds’ by
providing them with their own
iPod touch rather than mobile
phones. This enables them to
text, email and take photographs
that will be viewed and monitored,
prior to any publishing of articles,
to ensure correct protocol and
subject matter is always in place.”

OUR NEWSHOUNDS
Although I am not a big fan of
American football,
Touchdown Hero
is great for killing time.
It’s a simple concept, but it has been
shown in recent times that complexity
isn’t needed in making a great app.
A game in which you simply run
to the end - which gets harder in
stages - doesn’t seem so great on
paper but once you get into the
game, minutes can end up turning
into hours as you frantically try to
beat your high score.
It’s a real hidden gem this game
and it was fun to play.
You can pick up the app and in the
space of 10 minutes you will be an
expert – it’s easy to play, fun to play
again and addictive.
I will continue to play this app for a
long time to come and would give
the game 8 out of 10.

My full name is William Denis
Kirkpatrick.
I am a big lover of sports -
especially Bolton Wanderers
- and playing video games.
Basically, I am a huge nerd!
Not only football but I used to
be quite sporty. Some funny
facts are that I can swim
2000m in under an hour and
was a black belt in karate.
I’ve always wanted to be in the
journalism business as I love
writing and, more importantly, I
like to think I’m good at it.
I have lived in Bolton all my life
and love the place.
My taste in music is pretty
broad, mainly rock and indie,
and I love comedy movies or
anything that makes me laugh.
Hi, I am Kian, a year 10 student
at Rivington and Blackrod High
School currently studying for my
GCSEs in Computing, Maths
and Science, plus others.
I enjoy working with computers
and really enjoy maths. I am
very interested in understanding
how newspapers are produced
and the Newshounds is a
great opportunity to give me
the experience and a wider
knowledge range to help me in
my studies.
I’m Daniel.
I enjoy playing computer
games, drawing and doing
gymnastics.
On Saturday mornings I help
out at Horwich gymnastics club
to coach and help other kids.
I like to draw cartoons and
some of them make my
younger brother laugh.
My favourite food is Spaghetti
Bolognese; my favourite films
are Breaking Bad and Taken
because of the action in them.
At school, I chose to take
GCSE Media, Art and ICT
and I hope to be involved
in the media when I’m older
because I enjoy learning about
it in school and I like what it
involves.

Deer Hunter is a good game.
It requires a steady hand and
patience to land an accurate
shot, and includes a wide
variety of weapons and clothes
that will benefit you, as well as
challenging missions and daily
bonuses.
However, if you want to get far
in the game you need to spend
real-life currency on gold.
Weapons, which you should
buy, pop up constantly and that
requires gold.
Overall I rate Deer Hunter a 7
out of 10.
